Disc Throws and Catches for Night-Time Play

A glowing disc is easy for beginners and rewarding for experienced players. Almost every classic technique carries over, so you can try your favourites and watch the glowing arcs they make against the night sky.

Throws to try

  • Forehand and backhand, the two basic throws for most players.
  • Side arm and flick for lower, faster flights.
  • Huck, a long, high throw.
  • Thumber and scoober, which fly upside down and add variety.
  • Push pass and hammer, which suit short or curved passes.

Mixing throws creates different glowing patterns, so experiment and see what shapes appear. The smooth underside of the disc also makes it suitable for balancing on a fingertip, and tips and kicks are easy to execute.

Catches to try

The pancake, a two-handed clap catch, is common and the easiest for beginners. The two-handed rim catch is also friendly to newcomers. More advanced players can attempt a one-handed rim catch, which remains harder whatever your level.

Make it a routine

Warm up gently and start with short throws. When the sun sets, activate the glowsticks and start again.

Stay safe

Inspect the playing area for potholes, uneven ground and other objects before the game. The disc has small parts and is not meant for pets. For more, see where to play.
